Donate Time

Every single day in South Dakota, men, women and children suffer from hunger. And every single day, people donate their valuable time to fight for hunger relief across the state.

If you want to donate even a little bit of your time to help eliminate hunger in the state of South Dakota, please contact us today. An hour of your time can have a major impact on the lives of the hungry in South Dakota.

Remember: the people you help by donating your time are more than statistics. These are real people with real lives and real needs. You can help them. Donate your time to Feeding South Dakota and YOU will help destroy hunger in this state.

BackPack Program (Sioux Falls):  We pack "BackPacks" on Tuesday evenings, typically starting at 6:00pm and will usually take about 2 1/2 hours to complete this project.  Please dress in light, comfortable clothing and comfortable shoes as we will be standing on concrete during this project.  Yes, we allow children to come and help, but do ask that if they are younger than middle school that you pair one child with one adult and they are not to be included in the number of people you will be scheduling to bring.  There is a certain amount of heavy lifting so a good mix of men and women would be perfect!  Enthusiasm is key; we LOVE energetic group leaders!  Currently, the 2010/11 school year is full.  We are now taking names of individuals, families and groups for summer of 2011 the 2011/12 school year.  We can take up to 35-40 people per night.  If your group is smaller, that's ok, we'll find another group to make up the difference.  Email Allison Struck to schedule.

Senior Box Program (Sioux Falls):  One Saturday per month we gather groups together to pack a box of commodities for low income seniors in the eastern portion of South Dakota.  We start at 8:00am and will typically pack until about 1:30pm.  Similar to the BackPack Program, we schedule groups of 35-40 people, but will accommodate the smaller groups too!  Please dress in comfortable clothing with no open-toed shoes.  There is a fair amount of heavy lifting, so "a few good" men would be appreciated!  If you have work gloves, please bring them as they come in handy for some of the necessary tasks.  Your group will be standing on concrete for the duration of the project, just so you are aware if you have a volunteer with special limitations.  But know that we'll find you a chair if you need one!  You can email Steve Rohwedder or Jay Heintz to schedule your group.  You can also call our office at 605.335.0364 and ask for the warehouse.
