BackPack Program
One of Feeding South Dakota’s strongest and most important methods of service is the BackPack Program, which provides food to children who would otherwise be at risk of going hungry. Every Friday afternoon from September through May, we deliver 4,389 backpacks to 49 schools across the state.
That means that every week, the BackPack Program affects the lives of 4,389 children and their families. Understand that when you give to the BackPack Program, you are giving more than a simple backpack full of food. You are giving hope to a child who would not find food at home and you are giving peace of mind to a caretaker who is otherwise unable to feed that child.
Has this program been successful? Definitely. But there are more hungry children on the BackPack Program's waiting list in need of food. Remember that when you give to the BackPack Program you are fighting to eliminate hunger in the state of South Dakota. And in this fight, every donation counts. Give to the BackPack Program today and know that you are not simply putting food in a child’s stomach – you are putting hope in a child’s heart.
